The segment entitled “A One-time Olympic hopeful’s tough journey home” featured interviews and footage of Kevin Pearce & his family with Tom Brokaw about Kevin’s recent injury and miraculous recovery. When discussing his experience, Kevin said “ Having something like this happen to you just totally changes your perspective on things and totally changes your look at the world, just being able to be alive and be OK, and be with my family is much more important to me.” NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams provides reports and analysis of the day's most newsworthy national and international events. The five-minute segment, entitled “Olympic hopeful recovers from near fatal accident,” discussed Kevin’s return from Craig to his family home in Vermont and the remarkable turn in his recovery. Kevin said, “There’s nothing better that I could imagine happening than getting to come back here in the shape that I am in.” When asked about returning to the sport, Kevin said, “I think that’s the most exciting part, is yes, I’ll get back to snowboarding.” The Today Show is the leading weekday morning program that provides the latest in international and domestic news. Kevin Pearce, Snowboarder and Norwich, VT native continues to improve and impress his Craig Hospital therapy team and his family.
Alan H. Weintraub, MD, Kevin’s rehabilitation physician at Craig Hospital, http://www.craighospital.org, and the Medical Director of Craig’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program and the TBI Rocky Mt. Regional System of Care said, “We could not be more delighted and inspired by Kevin’s progress. Kevin’s treatment team has completed our comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation evaluation, and Kevin is actively engaged in a TBI treatment program, specially tailored to his needs. Kevin is in many therapeutic activities, including occupational therapy, speech/language, physical therapy, counseling, and aquatics therapy. Due to his consistent hard work, his walking, short-term memory, and stamina are all improving. Kevin’s progress is very encouraging.”
Kevin’s parents are also very pleased with Kevin’s progress and the treatment he is receiving at Craig. Kevin’s mother Pia states, “We are very grateful to have the opportunity to be at Craig Hospital. Kevin’s rehab is our family’s highest priority right now. We are confident that he is in excellent hands here at Craig. We appreciate being able to be so involved and are thrilled to experience Kevin’s remarkable progress.”
