Kevin is the 2007/2008 TTR World Champion
Posted on 03.15.08Kevin Pearce rounds out his stellar season, as the new 07/08 Men’s Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion. A podium finish at the Swatch TTR 6-Star Burton US Open of Snowboarding at Stratton Mountain, VT landed the 20-kilo metal and wood, custom-made TTR World Champion trophy and a $50,000.00 check into Pearce’s hands.
“My whole family was at the base of the pipe going nuts,” said Kevin Pearce. “Everyone turned it on high for the finals. I knew that I had to put down a solid run to do well in the Open and tie up the TTR title that was just a few points away.”
Pearce qualified for the U.S. Open halfpipe finals with a run that started with back-to-back 10s. In the finals, his high-amplitude run featuring a styled out BS crail, followed by a FS 10 tail, a cab 10, a FS 9 stale, finishing with a monster McTwist won him third place at the Open and enough points to seal in the TTR World Championship title.
The Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour is a culmination of a 10-month competition season including top rated snowboarding events over four geographical zones. Throughout 2007 and 2008, Pearce has been a fixture on the podium of prestigious snowboard events worldwide. Well-versed in Halfpipe, Slopestyle, Big Air and Quarterpipe, Pearce was able to rack up the 974 points he needed to win the championship across the freestyle contest spectrum.
Pearce’s TTR season started off with a second place finish at the season opening Burton Abominable Snowjam last July. By early winter, he had found his rhythm winning the first TTR six star Quarterpipe event at the Nokia Air & Style in Munich, Germany and his first major Halfpipe event, the Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland.
He continued the streak throughout the winter winning a second consecutive Oakley Arctic Challenge, taking first place at the Billabong Air & Style Big Air event in Innsbruck, Austria and placing third at the Toyota Big Air in Sapporo, Japan. The 20-year-old earned the nickname “Marathon Man” and made history after competing in and landing on the podium for three different events, Slopesyle, Big Air and Halfpipe, in one day at the 2008 Winter X Games.
The readers of Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, took notice of Pearce’s season awarding him the elite Reader’s Choice Award, at the Transworld Rider Poll Awards in Las Vegas.
